Desert Commandos 2.8.2

If you're a fan of war games like Call of Duty or Rainbow Six then you might be interested in trying out Desert Commandos.

The Java game sees you take command of a series of elite soldiers who defend their bases against an enemy force hell-bent on destructions. Desert Commandos takes the form of a third-person, top-down adventure in which you switch control between each of your soldiers. Each member of your group has his own special abilities, unique weapons, etc., so there is a certain amount of tactical skill needed.

On the surface of it Desert Commandos sounds like an interesting an absorbing war game. However, in terms of its playability it's fatally flawed. For starters the graphics are far too small for a mobile device, and all that squinting starts to hurt your eyes after a while. Secondly, the character movement is slow and jerky and feels very unresponsive at times. Aiming your gun is literally a hit-and-miss scenario, too.

It's a shame that the controls in Desert Commandos are so annoying because if done correctly it would have all the makings of a classic. There are only two basic missions in this demo version, but they are packaged in an interesting way with neat features like platoon command systems, GPS plotter and clear mission outlines.

Ultimately though Desert Commandos is a game that should've been so much better.
